| i have a big colony of these, and breeding very frequently.
I recommend a diet alternating between hikaris one night and then cucumbers. that will fatten ur females up fast.
for caves you need something thats -just- big enough for the male to fit into , the more snug the better. a few caves of varying sizes should make him feel comfortable. Also i recommend you lay some cover at the entrance so you dont disturb him so easily. These fish are easily frightened, and if the male is happy then he will be happy to fan.
I run my tank at 26.5C, with a canister. I dont get into the science of chemical levels etc. Just basic water changes once a week is good enough, etc
In doing all this I get at least one spawn every month.

| If the male is fanning all the time it could be because of 1 of 2 reasons:
either a) he is in the mood to breed and almost there, (ie cleaned out cave and getting a feel of the level of oxygen in the water, if its enough to raise eggs) or,
b) theres low oxygen in the water.
I believe its the latter since its all the time, you can easily remedy this by adding an air stone. | |
