angels are relatively placid until they mature and pair off to breed. once they spawn they become demonic lol. its well known that an angel fish pair will keep all other fish bailed up in the corner of the tank to protect there precious young... until they fry are big enough or the pair eat the fry :|. They are also rather prolific once they get going (as long as they are fed well enough) so the other fish dont really have much of a relaxing break in between spawns. Angel fish are still a cichlid and well act accordingly lol

Any advice to an aspiring discus keeper delta? Im in the midst of setting up my aquaone 980T for discus and this is my second go at it (first go was a while ago and ended badly when some i purchased from LFS ended up being diseased ridden Sad) The tank is fully cycled and is as of today home to german blue ram pair, a neon blue ram, a balloon blue ram and checkerboard cichlid pair.

sorry for hijacking your thread Curby

I am by no means an expert, I have had discus in the past for 10 years gradually they all died of old age. I was left with a blue gourami and an angel. I have found new ways of buying the discus now ,so I dont have to pay the huge prices the fish shops are asking, that is why I never replaced them before. I do a 25% water change every 2 weeks, I have an external filter so the water stays clean. Truly I personally dont think they are as fussy as what people make them out to be,warm clean water, good food and they are friendly and happy My discus I had before even bred so that must say something for their enviroment cos I never did a water change every 2 days, dont have time.

Care to share this secret to the general public? As I stated I'm looking at getting some discus for the tank soon and I don't want to pay $100s for fish I'm not %100 sure on... So far iv only spent that kind of money on catfish lol Smile

Sure I buy mine on Gum tree, They have been looked after very well by the people who breed them, I picked up 3x 12cm Blue diamonds for $50 each and a Golden Melon from a lovely lady for $65 and that one was 12cm too There is some really unusual ones on Adelaide gum tree at the moment, they are orange with black and blue speckles (not sure if I like them, but they are very different.)
