| Hey, they do look good. Sadly we don't get much variety in the species of BN so I hope to breed some and selectively breed the darker and darker fish with lighter and lighter spots until I can create my own snowflakes from our regular mish mash browns. | |

| We actually have something similar to this in the local store at present. I think it might be L34 though. They couldn't tell me an L number. I have been researching on them just today and there are pretty well no reported cases of successful aquarium breeding which is a blow. | |

| Nice pick up Jo , are medusa still Ancistrus? and what gives them the tag medusa instead of Bristlenose?. Kind of looks like a peppermint or L183 or similar to me. Hope you have good luck spawning them if they are not recorded to spawn in a aquarium. Cheers J | |

| If they are the same as the one here, its ancistrus ranuncus or something like that... They told me the other day, but I've slept since then... | |

| They are indeed Ancistrus, Ranunculus to be exact. Medusa comes from the abundance of "snake" like bristles, just like a character in Greek mythology. Medusa, originally a beautiful young woman whose crowning glory was her magnificent long hair, who was desired and courted by many suitors. Yet before she could be betrothed to a husband, Poseidon (Neptune) found her worshipping in the temple of Athena (Minerva) and ravished her. Athena was outraged at her sacred temple being violated, and punished Medusa by turning her beautiful tresses into snakes and giving her the destructive power to turn anyone who looked directly at her into stone, so maybe Ancistrus have hidden powers eh!. Heres a pic of the more commonly available Ranunculus | |

| Now remind me never to stare into there eyes LOL A little update they are doing well settled in with no issues they seem to be eating (when I am not there) they are not very active which is typical but ok, I have been doing as much research as I can but there is so little info out there it is untrue, from what I can gather they prefer high temp water so I have them at 29oC and they like meaty food rather than veg so I have offered them a range of food the same as my hypans diet and offered veggies which they have not touched, I am trying to find out if they need a high flow in the tank some say yes other say they prefer calm water? any ideas guys??? | |
