| Hey guys im just wondering if this is normal or not i did post a pic of one of my new bristlenose last night and it seems to be that out of all the caves and stuff in my tank like i have a bristlenose log a half plant pot turned over and a rock from the ocean with heaps of hidy holes and stuff and i got some drift wood which has 2 massive openings on both sides my male seems to spend all day muching away on the top of my drift wood inside it im wondering if hes making this his little cave but if so is this bad because the cichlids in my tank always swim through it and my female doesnt seem to show much interest in it as she likes to hide in the ocean rock i only bought them 2 days ago are they just adapting to the tank trying to find out their spots or will they most likely not breed together?.... | |

| Hi,male bristlenoses love wood caves. You can make one for him by drilling into a piece of bog wood to make a cave about 4 to 5 inches deep by about 1 and a quarter to 1 and a half inches in diameter. They like tight fitting totaly enclosed caves. | |

| cheers but i already got some wood in my tank i realised he kept hiding in there so i thought ide wait for him to move out for a minute and take my wood out while i did this i blocked off one side of the wood with some rocks i had so it was then only one sided is that a good idea? theres a bristlenose log in the tank aswell and he sometimes sits infront of it with just his nose in it then moves away ive only owned him for 2 days but he is decent sized about 10cm | |

| It might work but it is difficult to say really without seeing it.If it has created a safe tight fitting cave of the right dimensions and it will be safe and not fall apart then he might well use it.I am not sure what a bristlenose log is either sorry.I only ever use wood caves as they love them. They will only use a cave with one entrance hole in it usually. | |

| Pictures might help, one of the set up and another of the bristlenose log, which people may know by another name. I'm imagining that it's something like this Sometimes covering an artificial cave with bogwood may make them more inclined to use them. | |

| Hey dont worry about what i have said i made some minor adjustments to my drift wood as it broke and its now a little cave its not a tight fit for him but the entrance is then when he gets in its about 6cm wide and about 3cm deep do u think he would breed in this? the entrance is like 3cmx3cm so its big enough for him to squeeze through and ive noticed when i go lights out for a while he moves across the tank into the bristlenose log and just sits his mouth in it do you think hes trying to attrach the female? | |

| Hi,i don't think he will use the cave you have described as it sounds too small for him but you never know.It sounds like he likes the bristlenose log, what are the dimensions of it ? You could add a couple more suitable sized caves for him that are the right dimensions | |

| Sorry i misstyped my demensions :L i thought it was about that big but its not its about 5cm deep and about 9cm wide but the entrance is about 4x5 so its a decent size he gets up on top inside of it and just eats away umm the bristlenose log i have is the exact pic that jim posted Ok so i did manage to get some pics of him in the bristlenose log and also got a pic of the cave he usually stays in This is the drift wood that i sorta turned into a cave the end of it is blogged so nothing can get through its one sided he enjoys it ] This is him in the bristlenose log he had his nose in it but when he seen me he went right in then came back out a lil I dont have very bad water its just the image quality i apologize for this as my sister has my cannon 550d and she is in japan on holidays so for now i gotta take crappy photos on phone :L | |

| Heres a trick that works. Put the bristlenose log inside the wood log (if it fits) | |
