| Here's a few more bromiliads to puruse. Neoregelia carolinae: this is what they refer to as tank type broms(Neoregelia), carolinae is the hybrid name, this 1 starts to colour up like this. then gets better, and the little hardly noticeable flowers come out the middle of the plant -here. Achmea nauticlaus: or christmas candles , because they usually flower around christmas time, A different Achmea ? Achmea ?: royal wine the berries on this guy and the one previous will last on the plant for quite a while like Achmea gamosepala. Very similar to one before hand but a slight change in colour , when its at full tilt it looks flouresecent orange. J | |

| Cheers guys , it's summer here in OZ at the moment so the plants will probably slow up a little-- still there are a few varieties you haven't seen and I'll post again when "royal wine " develops its colour properly. J | |

| Bugger, I missed the spot to get some of "royal wine" so here's a few pix of some oddities. Flower/seed head from a dwarf palm. The buds from a type of of cactus, not sure what it's called but the plant part only grows about as wide as your finger but the sections can grow longer than you arm And the flower a couple days later- it's a pity the flowers only last a few days aswell. And a couple of "Epiphyllum" colour variants, Epiphyllum is a flat leaved cactus. And finally a "Cattleya" type orchid. J | |

| Super nice "Brassia cultivar " Mooo, I grow the version that is straight white and grows the huge spidery blooms -- also better suited to the S.A climate. Here's an orchid for you Mooo. Zygopetalum- somethingorother , 1 of the 2 orchid's Iknow of that have scent- these smell similar to cloves/cinnamon, the other= vanilla orchid A type of "Tillandsia", I dig the way you don't need dirt to grow these guys + no thorns like the broms. An "Achmea" type, this one is just starting to flower so I'll try to get the flowers when it happens. And finally "fosters favourite" again - the reason these red berries last for a good 2-3 months through S.A's hot summers-- remarkable. "That's ya bloomin lot" , well for now anyway , I'm sure I'll find something in the future that I haven't posted yet. J | |

| Thanx Doug, these plants are all at mum's, I'm in the same boat with renting the flat , I have a 3.5 foot wide balcony front and back-- good idea to keep it clear and keep neighbours from moaning. J | |
