hi there everyone. New here but not to the fish world. Though I still consider myself an amature. I have had my tanks up and running for a few years now. About 3 years ago I bought this pleco. Just cause I thought he was pretty. I had never seen one like him before Anywho... He lives peacefully in a community 120 tank and I cannot ID this bugger for the life of me. I am hoping you can help me out. Even the owner of the local fish store didn't know what he was... any help would be WONERFUL!

Do you guys know much about Catfish?? lol

Hello from California Ssig_w10 Hi and welcome to Bristlenoseworld cheers

Your fish looks like an L091 Leporacanthicus triactis sometimes called the 3 Beacon Pleco because of the orange patches in the dorsal, adipose and caudal fins but clearer pictures would help.

you are absolutely correct in that ID. Wow! 10seconds on here and I have my answer! That's just thrilling. I am curious what I need to know about him. He gets no real special treatment right now... just eats of the bottom like any bottom dweller. Should I be feeding him something special? How big is he going to get? Is the 120gal acceptable for his species? I really love this fish and want to ensure he has a good long life.

thank you so so so much for the ID! Smile

Hi and welcome to bristlenoseworld.

Good food for your pleco is the occasional fresh veg like cucumber and also feed it algae wafers. They should provide the optimum diet the pleco needs

3 Beacons can potentially grow to about 9" at that size a tank 48"x 18" would be minimum needed to allow it move freely. 120 gal sounds big enough but really depends on the dimensions.

As kfenk has said a good varied diet is needed.
