Don't know if anyone lives in/near Hatfield but I was working there today and as I have to pass right past this shop (Maiden Aquatics on the A414 between M1 and Hatfield), so thought I'd drop in and take a quick look.

It is one of the biggest fish shops that I have been in and all the tanks looked lovely and clean.

In my opinion, the fish were a little pricey, common BN's about 3 1/2 inches were being sold at £12.95 each.!
They did have some very nice Royal Plecs about 4 inches in length (£40) and some "Broken Stripe" Royals again £40 at 4 inches.

However, what they did have for sale were some L344s, which were being sold at the same price as the commons £12.95 They aslo had some what I believe were L255 (Spotted Medusa) and what I believe were Blue Phantoms. Both of these last two were being sold under the label of "Spotted Ansistrus" £12.95. All of these were a good 3 1/2 to 4 inches in length. I did query one of the staff, in my most "I don't know anything about fish" manner, as to what type are these plecs and the price, to be told they were all the same "Spotted Ansistrus" and were as marked £12.95. (Even though they were in different tanks and clearly not the same species..!!) So could be a bargin for someone as I wasn't able to buy them.... I was on my way to a meeting which was going to last all day and only stopped off because I was early. Unfortunately I wasn't going back that way so couldn't even buy them and ask them to hold them till later...

They also had some very nice Large Wild caught Corys, but cant remember what type they were or the price.

Anyway just thought i'd post this in case any members live nearby as they could grab themselves a couple of bargin blues and L255s.

If you do and you manage to breed them, remember who dropped you the nod when the little ones hatch..... Maidenhead Aquatics on the A414 between M1 and Hatfield. 1153438146 lol!

They also have a nice marine section and a separate shrimp room.

cheers

Jon
