stripping fry from the cave? Empty
PostSubject: stripping fry from the cave?   stripping fry from the cave? EmptyMon Mar 12, 2012 9:03 am

Ive sold off 2 of my female peppermint's and now have a trio. And within a week my pepps spawned again. I had a peak in the cave and it looks like a decent size spawn.
Im planning on stripping the babies from the cave 2 days after they hatch as i lost the last spawn they had. My question is will this upset the male and stop him from breeding? Has anyone done this before and is there anything i shouldnt do?
I have made a large fry saver that i can put the cave in and leave it in the tank, i just have to wait for the silicone to cure properly. then the male can have a rest in the fry saver and the babies will be safe.

do you have any idea why the first lot died? if there is a reason that the fry are dying then moving them into the fry saver will not make a bit of difference, unfortunatly Sad

im not sure why, i never found any bodies. I looked in cave and saw alot of fry, 5 came out and the rest disapeared. Maybe the male ate them or the rummy nose tetras did.I know it takes a few times for pepps to get it right but the first 2 spawns went well. I have food near both ends of my 3ft tank so there is plenty of food. Water is perfect, i checked it 2 days ago. Ill see how this spawn goes in the fry saver.

the eggs have hatched, i found the empty egg husks. The male is half out of the cave so all must be ok with the fry. ill give them a few days to eat their egg sack then ill take them out of the cave and put them into my fry saver so i can keep an eye on them.
Why the others disappeared i think the male ate them.
