Hi all,but is this a coincidence, and not making any accusations (yet!,).
But I have, my brother has and I know of three other persons that I have acquainted,
that in the past have purchased from a breeder (more than four each) L325 Jari Blue Ancistrus Bristlenose Plecs, all of which are now adult size, and strange but true every one of them have turned out to be males.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does the breeder know something that he/she is not passing on
to potential buyers.
Your thoughts please.

Good Job

Did you all go for the largest ones in the batch, as they are most often the males?

All purchased through Ebay, so not able to choose. All originaly purchased at 1"+.now all around the 3"-4" size.
Is it possible that supplier can determine sex at that 1"+ size.?

Are you 100% sure they are all male? How long have you had them for?

All show the tell tale bristles around and up the nose. All were purchased just under twelve months ago.

I read somewhere that water chemistry/temp can play a role to attain more males/females in certain species of fish.

LFS had batch of Bn couple months ago that looked to me to be all males as well (all had whiskers developing). Got my prized male Abn from that batch tho so not complaining.

Yes Jef, that is a theory I am looking into, but it is a strange coincedence that five of us have the same problem.
The other theory is that maybe the seller has a way of sexing them at a very early age, so only sells the males so as nobody else can breed them.!!! (more dosh in his/her pocket)
Woukld like to hear from anyone else that has got these rare plecs, and if any of them are females.

Ph levels affect the sex of Krib babies

ph of 6.5 - 6.8 will produce near equal numbers of males and females, Lower PH or Higher results in more females or males respectively.

Not heard that it does the same BN though...

cheers

Jon

I sit and watch my babies a lot, maybe to much L325 Jari Blue 1899675697
I've also wondered if there is a way to sex them at a young age.
I look at head shape, body type etc

Still they all look the same

but anyway, just a minute ago I got to thinking if my babies that flare and slap at each other
when there is no food to be fighting over , could possibly be males ??? already declaring dominance ??

If so , that could be a relatively easy way to sex them at an early age

I like to see the BN's. I buy before I pay out good money. I'd go to your local fish store and see what I'm buying before I pay out good money.
