| I really dislike sucking up the fry when vacuuming. So I used white gravel when I moved the very dark fry to their 40 gallon tank. Opps... I now have almost white fry! I didn't realize they can change their color that much. I really like the dark color, so when they were merrily munching on sweet potato, I dropped dark gravel around them. They darkened up a bit. Amazing to watch!
So how do they manage the color change?

| Im not sure but I think it has something to do with having the ability to shift the concentration of pigments in their skins, when they need to be darker they move the darker pigments towards the surface of their skins and move the lighter pigments deeper in which helps them blend right in | |
