| is there something better I can put in my tank for a footing other than Gravel that wont hert my Plecos? I currently have nothing in the bottom of my breeding tanks because I have had problems with babies getting stuck in the gravel and dieing. | |

| you could try pool filter sand from Clark rubber. I have this & so do a few others. Easy to clean & you can spot you babies a bit easier also I am not a fan of bare bottom tanks as the bacteria build up can kill the babies off if they munch on it | |

| i use gravel or sand substrate for my plec tanks. nothing more than 3mm gravel tho. i keep the gravel in my 4ft quite thin which makes moving driftwood around to catch fry much easier. plus its easier to vac than sand. then again i do like the sand substrate which is whats going into my 3ft for pleco breeding | |

| I have always used bare bottom tanks for breeding my Guppies and platties so I think I will just stick with what is working. | |

| I have always thought that a tank without bottom cover looks artificial and strange. A natural effect for the fish and the owners sake is important. Marty | |

| I agree I think if you make the fish feel at home or like he is out in the wild that they are more likely to spawn for you easier and be alot healthier | |
