| Hello Bristlenose lovers, I've only recentally joined the Bristlenose group. I've had my new friend for about a week.
Just briefly - My 50 gallon has 5 apple snails, 2 goldfish and the new addition to the group, bristlenose. The tank has a heater and it's set at 73f. The tank is cycled (0 ammonia/nitrites/1 nitrates). I have experienced a ton of algae and the plants are covered in the brown stuff. I was recommended to get the bristlenose. The new addition has done a wonderful job - the tank is about 70% cleaned.
Now I'm a bit concerned bristlenose might get hungry - as the algae gets eaten. My goldfish are piggies - they leave very little behind. I regularly feed the goldfish peas, zucinni and kale on a rotation basis in the veggie department. Every other day I toss in an algae waffer. Plus daily fish flakes, but I understand too much protein is not good for plecos.
How can I tell if the pleco is getting enough to eat? I have no problem knowing my goldfish are well fed - they are fat.
And yes, folks I have fallen in love with my bristlenose. What wonderful creatures. Thanks to this wonderful board I've got a ton of info at my fingertips.
Thanks so much. | |

| Hi,best thing to do is to put him some food in just before you turn off the lights at night time and put it near where he lives.Hikari algae wafers and a slice of cucumber or corguette weighted down will be good for him/her and so will peas. | |

| what they said ^
feed after dark when all the other fish are slowing down. Thats how i feed the bristlenose and other ground dwellers in my big tank. The oscars clean up everything during lights on so i have to wait til about an hour after lights off. | |
