I recently bought two bristle nosed catfish and would like help fish shops are crap(sorry) and lie as they have do so a few times to me and my partner. we bought before a albino bristle nosed catfish who grew to 7 inches in our tank and another 3 inches then sadly died in my partners dads tank. my little ones are maybe two inches and one is bigger than the other they are black with white spot and a white tipped tail, they have maybe doubled in size since we got them almost a month ago. Also what sex my they be.
hope someone can help.

PostSubject: Identifying Young Plecs & Ancistrus   are my new additions bristlenoses or common plecos EmptyWed Nov 21, 2012 12:28 pm

To be fair to some fish shops it is virtually impossible to identify many small Plecostamus, Ancistrus, Panaque & similar species from one another when young.

Likewise I suspect some wholesalers sell young fish to retailers as a small variety who in good faith sell them on.
Its the end consumer like us who buys a young fish only for it to grow into a monster !

I have purchased really cheap Common Plecs for them to turn out to be a really nice colour variety including a Royal Plec that I bought for £1.50
