| So once my cycle finally finishes! I will be stocking one or two Bristlenose Pleco's. I have a nice piece of wood for them, which they can go under which will kinda act as a cave, but I also have a hollow skull, hole in back of the head and hollow eyes and nose. I am wondering if two BN's will breed in this skull cave or under/on the wood, or do they need some sort of specific cave ? | |

| Hi,they have been known to breed under wood but it holds many problems if they do and mostly they won't use it anyway. It would be much better to buy proper caves made for them to breed in.You can buy them offline on places like ebay or certain websites. They are made of clay or slate.Bristlenoses like a cave with only one entrance hole and a tightish fit so the skull would probably not be used. You can also make your own if you are interested in doing so. Something like these and it is best to get a couple of them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Terracotta-BREEDING-CAVE-10cm-x3-25internal-Pleco-Bristlenose-BUY-4-GET-1-FREE-/151067327018?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item232c507a2a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Small-Slate-Breeding-Cave-11cm-D-x-3-5cm-W-x-2-5cm-H-internal-Pleco-Bristlenose-/151067317469?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item232c5054dd These are only examples that I found for you,you may be able to find cheaper or make your own. | bristlenose will breed in the oddest spots if they want to. I have had them breed under rocks/logs, behind the filter, in holes in logs, basically anywhere they feel safe enough that they can look after the eggs. You do increase your chances by providing them a proper cave though as this is where they will feel safest. You generally will not get two male bristlenose breeding at once in the same tank as you will normally find you have a dominate male and a sub dominate male. | |
