Yay!! I've had my first spawn after only 5 weeks!! We had thought my original female was bloated because of her size, so I got a second one. After only 24 hours of them being together, my new female decided she wanted to go in the males cave and spent about 6 hours trying to do so. I guess she must have gone in and my older female went in after her because the next morning she was super skinny! She looks malnourished now but so happy she's not bloated
My new BN girl is a great help. She showed the older one how to eat Zucchini (they never touched it until newbie came along).
I was cleaning my tank to remove the Platies (don't know if they'd eat the fry??) & to also capture the Platy fry that were just born & put them in a fry saver so I don't suck them up when cleaning. Must have spooked my male because he came out for less than a minute, but it was enough time to see a pretty decent batch of eggs on the roof of his cave
I couldn't see further back though for the second batch (cave is 13cm long and pitch black).
I'll post photos when they have some bubs! My male is a light coloured Marble (with areas of red), older female is Blue (8cm-first spawn) and the newbie is Blue Marble with areas of white (6cm-first spawn). How many eggs do you generally get from your first spawn with females this size?? I'm a little worried about getting over run with the two females! We thought my old one was a gonna (that's why I go newbie)
. I think she might have just needed competition.
In 24-48 hours I'll have wrigglers!
My tank is 2x14x18 (2 foot by 14inch by 18inch- I think).
