| Hi All I am after some help on what to do next. I have a 235lt tank (130cmx60cmx30cm) with African cichlids and bristle nose pelcos in it. I have 26x 2-3cm demasoni and 5 electric yellows ranging from 3-8cm. I have 5x bristle nose pelcos. 2 males, 2 females and 2 unknown. The larger BN male had bread once with both females producing 130 fry. They are in a 40-50lt grow out tank. Both females laid eggs in the males cave on the same day but both batches of eggs came out of the cave due to it being to smooth for the eggs to stick. I put them in an egg tumbler in the main tank and 8 days later I had 130 fry. Now 23 days later with new caves both males are fanning eggs in there cave. The thing I want to know is what to do next. Do I move them cave and all into the grow out tank with the 1cm fry and if so do I do it now or when they hatch. If I move the dads in with the last lot of fry will they eat them or will the fry interfere with the fanning. Or do I get all the eggs into a tumbler and leave the males in the main tank so they are ready to go again when the females are ready. Or is there a better way I have not thought of. Any ideas or info will be great. Thanks | |

| good question!
If it was me I would be taking dad, cave and all into the grow out tank. The trick is to make sure that the eggs say under water the whole time, a single exposure to air can be fatal, and/or cause fungal issues.
You will be wanting to filter the hell out of that tank. 60ltr grow out tank is very small for that number of fry. Kepp a really close eye on your nutrient levels too. | |

| Thanks for that. I have a old 180lt in the carport with nothing in it. I was going to use it as my cichlid grow out tank. Should I be setting it up with dividers and go that way. I am currently filtering the water 10-12 times a hr and doing water changes every day to 2 days. | |

| yeah, that's good just keep an eye on the levels as they can turn very quickly if the fry overload the system. I'd be setting up the 180ltr as it will reduce the work you need to do and it will help the fry out, but its not urgent as you seem to have it under control at the moment | |

| My eggs from both dads have hatched before i got to move them. I have put them in a fry saver in the main tank at the moment untill they use there egg sack. Then I will move them to the grow tank. What size do I start to sell them at and how long dose it take for them to grow to that size. | |

| never sell them less than 3cms. Any smaller than that and your fish shop/buyers will be ringing you complaining about how dead their fish are. it normally takes about 2 months to get to that size but it does vary with grow out tank setups. | |

| I keep my bristlenose with African cichlids in my 240 gallon tank not sure what that is in liters I have found that as soon as my plecos hatch they start wiggling out of the cave and the cichlids love to make a meal of them if I allow them to stay in the main tank so I always take the cave with the male and eggs and put them in my 72 gallon grow out tank before the eggs hatch ive never had any problems with the male bothering any other fry or juveniles in the tank | |
