Wanted ~ Purple Apple Snails

OK

I know these aren't bristlies, but I've just fallen in lurve with 'em Very Happy

If anyone knows where I can get some from, it would be most appreciated. I'm not wanting the purple striped ones, but the solid purple ones Smile

We managed to source these from 2 different people, one lot being a lot larger than the others. The older ones have just had their 3rd clutch laid and they have joined the others in the little basket I made which is hanging over a fry saver to catch them when they hatch.

Apparently it can take 2 - 4 weeks for them to hatch, and as they get older in the eggs, you can see them getting darker.

I have some piccies of them "getting it on" lol which I will try and remember to upload Very Happy

Thankfully I did some reading before we got them to find that these are single sex snails, and not hermaphrodites as is commonly thought.

They are a stunning colour, and the stripes on them are gorgeous, these have a dark grey foot, and the others that are not mature enough yet have a cream/white foot, and are just changing from sold purple to purple stripes.

OMG!!

We have 2 clutches in the grow tank for the snails that are due to hatch soon, and they've gone and laid another 4!!!!!

Fortunately for me they don't dart about, so I've been able to get a few pics of the adult snails ..... just indulge me LOL

I had a couple of hearts left from the spring cabbage we had for lunch the other day, so I stuck a bit of lead on it, and threw it in ...... WOW, can snails move fast when they wanna LOL

OMG

It's gone from the sublime to the ridiculous ................ We now have 8 clutches in the main snail tank that are awaiting hatching, the latest 2 were laid last night, and one of the clutches is half hatched.

Still won't be considering them for the puffers lol

I do have some purples, but they aren't quite big enough to sell yet.

Also, colours will intermix, however, you would need the same type, as not all apple snails are the same.

Mine are about 3 - 5mm each, and will either be light or dark footed as I have both types, although they will be striped, these come later.

Whilst we were at Bridlington yesterday, Wayne got a load of chalk pebbles for the snail tanks, we're just soaking them at the moment to get all the salt out.

Ive got 2 purple apple snails, blue one and bright pink one Very Happy

. Have to keep getting rid of the eggs because I'll be overun with them as well as bn's.

Umm maybe I should get another tank and breed apple snails

There is someone on ebay that sells clutches of apple snails eggs. So there's always a market, especially for non golden ones.

I have some young purples, but they are still a little to small to be selling/posting. Another month or to of growing out and there will be quite a few for sale, both dark and light footed striped purples Smile
