My Lovely Lars :)

Just thought I'd share some nice pics I got of my Female Common BN Lars!
I was very shocked that she came so close to the front and stayed happily still whilst I fetched my camera and snapped away! She usually ducked for cover when she spots me Unless there's courgette in hand of course

Please excuse the random fish in the background, I swear they see the camera and come a flocking

I think she's gorgeous! She's the first ever Plec I got, and the fish that got me hooked on fishkeeping

Thanks, I was surprised that my camera took such nice shots, it's normally quite rubbish to macro stuff :P

Aw, thanks I guess I just got lucky, I had no idea what to look for back then
I'll see if I can dig a few more up maybe

An older picture here, back in the old, smaller tank. Not as nice as the other shots, and she is slightly showing her stress coloration because she'd just chased Tim off her favourite spot xD Plus she's got sand all over her for some reason

We don't blanche courgette, but we do blanche carrots ..... this seems to be their fave at the moment.

I just do it so it sinks to the bottom and gives the Plecs a chance to get to it before the Gourami does. He loves the stuff! xD

I caught Lars chilling out on top of some courgette, sucking away on a stone! A bit confused me thinks :P She's showing a bit of stress colour here, she doesn't always like me looking at her

Lars has been posing a lot recently, I get the feeling that finally she's getting used to me poking the camera at her lol!

Thanks I rarely use the flash on my camera, it tend to completely wash the fish out, but it was one of those lucky shots I guess

Lars when I first got her! That guppy behind her is about a month old, so you get the idea of how tiny she was. She was about an inch and a half long!

She looks a bit full here, I can assure you it's just the effects of an evening on a rather large chunk of courgette, which was reduced to the skin within hours xD

Lars has some very nice form to her Spreebok-- do you have a boyfriend for her?
I'd be getting to the shops (or asking around here ) and try to find a nice sub-adult
male for her.

Hehe, thanks But, if you dont mind me asking, what about her makes her in good form? I'm just asking, as I'd like to be able to know what makes a good BN, as a lot of people have said about how nice looking she is. In my opinion, she's a pretty Plec, I love her colours and patterns when she's relaxed
Hmm, and thats definatly something I'd like to consider I think at the moment though, I'm pretty much stocked to capacity. However, I have been applying around on freecycle, lots of tanks going in our local one lol! Maybe when I get a bigger one, it'll be something to consider (cough definatly do cough)!

Good form: nice high eyes on the head,a well formed and shaped head ,nice straight
back and fins, even colour-- all the good stuff.
I used to have a female that had the slightest upward kick in the tail , she is now
breeding for a mate - but he can't even see the difference ( I have told him it's there),
also on another site I've seen pics of a fish that grew without the meaty part of the tail,
it looked like the tail fin section was growing straight of the big fat body part- very odd looking
fish.

Aw, thanks And yeah, I used that back in my very first tank, a 5.5ltr aquacube. My first ever venture into fish keeping xD
