| Poppa Bristles is sat on eggs again Last time I lost the babies at a few weeks old, just a few a day until there were none left. This time I'm going to do it right! Tell me if this all sounds right
1. I'm going to cover the filter intakes with the legs of some tights I've got so the babies don't get sucked up/lost in the filters. 2. 10% daily water changes with cold water from the tap - dechlorinated of course 3. Hikari wafers and courgette daily with 1 x weekly portion of blood worm as food - which is what I provide for the adults as normal anyway 4. Lights on for about 12 hours a day instead of the usual 6 to promote algae growth (I can't believe I'm actually typing that!!!) 5. I've added a filter which is too big for the tank so there is probably 3 times the filtration needed on a tank this size for "normal" fish but what with these messy plecs....... The new filter is turned down so as NOT to create a whirlpool effect and the venturi is on so extra aeration for the tank
Sound ok? Please be honest with me. I hate that I lost the last batch

| iam always honest cherry pie ..... everything sounds great except for the feeding... you arent thinking of feeding wafers and courgette everynight are you??? Also this filter you have put in?? has it been cycled?? It could cause a spike so test your water every other day...... | |

| Well the feeding is ad hoc really - a couple of wafers here, a chunk of courgette there - not all at the same time. They only have one thing a day, and there's normally a day about once a week when they don't have anything - they keep my plants spotless on those days Filter is not cycled but I'm still running the old one too so its all good. New ones been in for about 2 weeks already and the adults are loving the extra flow | |

My fish are kept in the garage with NO direct sunlight lights are turned on at 7am and turned off at 9pm and a small night light is left on over night

| Thanks deano - I'll look into it Jagtazman - I'm into planted tanks so encouraging algae growth is not something I've done before! And I'm having to put aside "common sense" and force myself to have the lights on for huge periods of time lol | |
