Rarely stocked in most shops, an attractive little fish suited to community aquaria.

Spawns readily in aquaria if conditions are right.

Origin: Madeira River Basin (Brazil)

Size/Length: Males to 1.6" (4 cm), while females reach 1.2" (3 cm)

Aquarium: A group can be kept in a 20" (50 cm) or 10 gallon (38 L) tank. Although, a 28" (70 cm) or 20-30 gallon (75-114 L) tank is preferred.
Use a cover of floating plants to darken the tank. The tank should be heavily planted with an open swimming area provided.

Water chemistry: pH 6.5-7.5 (7.0); 4-15 dH (12); 75-82°F (24-28°C)

Social behavior: A peaceful fish that is recommended for community tanks having other calm fish. Do not combine with aggressive or fin-nipping fish. Keep this fish in a small school.

Recommended tankmates: Smaller fish species such as; Tetras, Corydoras, Apistogramma, Loricarids, Discus, Dwarf Gouramis, panchax larger killies

FOOD: aquatic insects, Tubifex worms , Brine Shrimp, insect larvae, flake, small pellets, crumble.

OTHER COMMENTS: Appears drab when found in shops, but if given good food and suitable environment the highly reflective blue/purple colouration will shine through in no time.

I had no idea these even existed. Blue is awesome!! Would they school with other tetras or just themselves?

I would imagine they probably would school with other tetras, they include any tankmates that get swept up by their schooling happily, so i think they would. scratch
