| not sure, never quite seen bloat like that before, if it is then it must be chronic.... you doing regular water changes, and feeding them with the right stuff.... think Moo, or Curby or Deano could help with this as I never seen bloat this bad before hope it gets better soon :P | |

Its my 1st time seeing a real bloated fish. I hv never had 1 like that, my ABNs usually die with no symptoms, either they die of starvation ( I didn't know I need to feed wafer back then, and they were fighting for food with my fast and big eater discuses) or unknown sickness, with no external symptom.

| I'm not sure this is bloat. This is exactly what my fish looked liked. It went through my BN's and killed 7/12. The remaining 5 didn't 'catch' it and are now healthy and breeding. It was very upsetting at the time. It only affected the BNs. I will look for a photo so you can compare. I tried eSHa EXIT and eSHa2000. I don't know that they helped. The last fish that died didn't seem too bad and I hoped it would recover but it didn't. Sorry if you have the same thing. I would be interested to hear how it goes as I've no idea where it came from or how to prevent it happening again. | |

| Subject: bloat or contaminant in catfish? Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:28 pm | |
| exactly June, I have never quite seen Bloat this bad on such a small fish...
to me it looks like some contaminant in the water that as been ingested by the Bristlenose, but since other fish show no signs of the same ailment then this is highly unlikely also.
keep us informed, you never know as more of us see this type of problem in our fish we may be able to help them more actively, however until we can identify what the illness is, then it is an extremely difficult time for the owner of the fish who shows signs of this swelling etc.
kind regards

| Hey June, yours look exactly like mine with that swelling. I only managed to catch my pc last nite, but not long after catching it, it died. I am still looking out for the other 40 odd pcs, hopefully nothing of the same is happening. This is the 1st casualty in this tank till now. To play safe, will probably try adding some acriflavine 1st, then update.
I haven't started them on the metro flake yet, cos on closer look at the affected ABN, I thought I saw something like a bulging and soft blister also on its face. Then, b4 I get a chance to look at the carcasse, my husband already flushed it down the toilet bowl.
