| I'm not one for masses of medication and use a marine treatment for white spot in my tanks however, i purchased various 1-3cm babies a few weeks ago and they were doing great now i've noticed on my claro more than the rest they have white spot, i normally up temp and drop salt in before adding anything from a bottle but my bn's have always been 4inch+, as these are so small i'm worried about overdosing.
I up'd the temp from 26 to 27 last night. I'm water changing every other day at the minute on all of my tanks.
Do i up it again until i get to 30? Is it possible to put salt in when there so small?
There's no point in asking about treatment, i've heard esha? is the best to use but with it being the holidays and non of the shops around here selling it were talking a week before it gets to me which may be too late.
So any other idea's to help rid it would be much appriciated.

| I'm not 100% sure but I thought that with BN's being scaleless fish they don't react well to salt treatment and the salt burns their skin. If this is true then using salt on fry would cause more harm than good.
Raising the temperature is to speed up the lifecycle of the protozoan so the free swimming stage of the cycle when it's most susceptible to treatment. Without any medication raising the temperature will only increase the problem.
I'd carry on with the water changes and try to get some medication ASAP, ESha is good but if you can't get it near you then most fish stores sell Protozin and as this is added over a period of days it should be safer with fry than a single dose medicine.

| Protozin is a no no in this house it either doesn't work or bring on death so we don't use it, the medication i use has always worked and i beleive is the same day dose 1,2,3 and 6. The problem i'm having is because it's for marine i'm worried dosing the dose i normally give will kill them, i've used it on various plecs including bn's with success but with something like protozin do you drop the dosage any bacause of there age/size? Or simply still to the calculation of water?
I've used salt with pitbulls,L numbers and longfin BN's before with no harm as it's something small like 0.25 p/g so it's alot less than a normal dose and although isn't 100% comfortable for them it also won't cause any damage.
I know how the white spot got in there and i know they've only had it for a maximum of 2 days so i'm not panicing just yet but would like to start treatment tonight.
So do i go with the more natural way and go for the salt or go for the easy option of the bottle?

| If your confident using the salt then try it, in the mean time you could try the web or contact the makers of your usual medicine for advice about dosage when younger fish are involved in case th salt is not working or only keeping the Ich in check.
I personally have only used eSHa exit and that was on Clown loaches, touch wood my BN's have never had Ich.

| My whitespot treatment is bump the temp to 28 degrees and add Wardley Ichaway at half dose for two times the treatment length. I now run UV lights on my tanks so i havent had it since i installed them | |

| Again it isn't a treatment any shops i know of sell and as theyve now had it for 4-5 days i don't have the time to order it and wait 5-10 for it to arrive before treating the problem, but thanks for letting me know i'll bare it in mind for next time. | |
