| duckweed is a tiny free floating plant that can be kept in heated aquarium as well as in pond. Great as food for goldfish, frog, turtle or Australian native fish. Or can be used as garden feature or to reduce the amount of unwanted nutritien in your tank or garden which will feed algae.
would it be safe to have in a tank???

| It would all depend on where your getting it from.
If your taking it from a natural pond or even a garden pond there is a danger of introducing all sorts of nasties to your tank.

| Duckweed can often contain Hydra but so long as you don't have really small fry in the tank it should be OK.
You could try floating it in a container for a few hours and see if anything comes out.

| DONT DO IT!!!!
it sounds like a good idea in the begining but then it covers the whole surface of your tank, then its impossible to get rid of it. Took me months to remove it when i got it by mistake.

| I have duckweed and the only thing I don't like about it is that it sometimes clogs my filter intake. This usually happens after a water change when it has been disturbed. However I find it can easily be skimmed off the surface of the water with a net. I do like the look of it.... reminds me of tiny lily pads. | |

| Okay I finally got some pics uploaded: From above. It gathers where plants touch the surface of the water as you can see. This is what it looks like from below. If you have shrimp they'll walk upside down on it. | |

| It looks really pretty... I can see how it could over run the tank though if not kept in check... Probably looks better in an open top tank as I dont think you would get the full effect in my closed tank... Looks good though! | |
