PostSubject: Will my gouramis breed?   Will my gouramis breed? EmptyThu Feb 17, 2011 5:48 pm

it is all in the title, i have a pair of blue gouramis, each about 3-4 inches long, and i know that they are bubble nesters and make bubbles with plants so that they can lay their eggs. So, will they breed in a community tank? If it is any help I have noticed that one of the plants is being torn apart, (I have real plants) it was also uprooted at some point, is it the gouramis or just a dodgy plant?

I would also like to know if anyone has any experience keeping or maybe even breeding these fish, i would like to know a little more about them

thanks for any help Very Happy

James

i have kept them before, but never bothered to breed them. Never had the right tank conditions Sad

I know they can be a bit brutal to plants, they always were to my swords.

You really need a sperate breeding tank with minimum filtration, in community tank the water current will probably be to strong for the nest to form. You also have to be able to remove the female, male Gouramis are notorious for attacking the female after mating.
