| after having a pair of bn plecs in a 2 foot tank and successfully breeding them for many spawns i unexpectedly lost my breeding female 2 weeks ago. ive been left with a good breeding size male and a lot of fry im growing on. ive set up a 3 foot tank and moved all the fry to this tank for now. ive also added a trio of new bloodline plecs, a brown large male, an adult albino female and a nearly breeding size albino female to this tank. in my other tanks i have access to 3 more adult males and one female of breeding size.
so what mix of adults can i house full time to breed in my 3 foot tank? so to recap i have 4 adult male brown bn plecs, 2 female albinos and one brown female. | |

| No more than 2 males and a ratio of 2 females per male....... personally in a 3ft tank i would house only 1 male but if you do decide to have 2 then make sure they are caved at either end of the tank so they cannot see one another.... I have recently put 3 males into a large 5ft 400 litre aquarium and 2 commons are fighting over one cave so in my experience its how placid you think your males are..... I happen to have a naughty male who will fight with himself if he could..... | |

| Like Curby says it all depends on your males..... I know June who is also a member on here has about 5 or 6 adult males in her tank, which I think is also a 3 footer, and several females. As far as I am aware all of hers get along fine. You could ask her how she does it, her tank looks great. Yet other people I know have males like Curby's who would try and "fight" their own reflection.. Oh the joys of Bns..!! Jon | |

| Hi and welcome to the forum mate. 3ft would prob be minimum for 2 males. Even then have a piece of wood in the middle of the tank as a devider. In my experience females will breed with the dominant male first so I try to keep my selected breeders separated completely. | |
