| Hi,I wouldn't buy anything that is not sealed in packets as you just have no idea of what they really are.Hikari are an excellent one to buy and i also use Tetra at times.Mine absolutely love Tetra Pro Veg flakes and always come straight out to eat them when I put some in.They are very small and thin little tiny round flakes with spirulina and all mine love them.I do only have a few bristlenoses in my tank though, they are food for all fish so if you have other fish in their they will probably gobble it up so you might have to feed it at lights out and they do sink.I buy my food from different places, depends where i am at the time.Ebay is good but as i said get the proper packets.
Philiptracey, what are the cream coloured ones you buy called?

As Bristlenoses asked do you know what the cream coloured ones were called? I have recently tried the Hikari mini algae wafers and was happy with them, with them being smaller it meant I could distribute them more and it cut down on any squabbles, especially where there was more than one male in a tank. Ebay can be a great source of quality food at at a good price but be wary of foods that are not in the original packaging that is often claimed to be bought in bulk by the seller. Some algae wafers also contain more protein than others and it's useful to know the quantity before buying/feeding.

Hi,fresh veg is an excellent food for them but in my opinion they do need algae in their diet.

Hi Jim,I have a question about this protein. As animal protein and plant protein are different in certain areas. As long as it is plant protein being fed and not animal protein, such as blood worm etc, wouldn't it be o.k whatever the percentage?

| It's something I read in Dougs ebook and it's the actual concentration of the algae in the wafers. Sorry but because it is from Dougs book I'm not really sure if I can go into to much detail but only add that the book is full of great info and I would recommend it to anyone. | |

| yes there are some differences between plant and animal protein in terms of the tercery and quaternary structure but when it comes to the units that make up the structure they are the same. algae wafers concentrate the protein down, some even add in extra protein. just pays to check before you throw them in. For example, wafers specifically for shrimp tend to have more protein in them to help give them nice red colours | |
