| new to this site so forgive my ignorance! I brought bristlenose Plecs about a year and a half ago, without knowing their sex, around December we had a large number of baby plecs. Most have survived despite the best efforts of some of my other fish to eat them! which has had a disastorous effect on my tank, I have exceptionally high levels of nitrate in the water, from the plecs waste, I have been told, which is causing the entire stock of fish in the tank to suffer due to lack of oxygen, I have repetedly done water changes (20% etc.) daily but it is a problem that continues to happen. So I have decided to let some of the 20+ plecs I have to go for the benefit of the entire tank. Anybody who is interested in any plecs about 3 months old get in touch alkso any advice on how to reduce the nitrate levels would be much appreciated. I have decided to keep 2 plecs, the large male and 1 other, possibly also a male. Thanks in advance Alex | |

| Are they freebies If so then put a post in the freebies room, if not then this post breaks the trading , members have to have made 10 posts to trade, and it will be deleted if nothing appears in the "freebie section". As for the nitrate try reducing feeding untill you have reduced your numbers, it very tempting to overfeed when you have youngsters. As Jeff has said a quick fix would be to give them to a LFS, but I'm sure if you posted in the "freebie section" they will get snapped up in no time | |

| Hey, I just thought I would add that if you do take them to a local aquarium store to reduce your bio load in the tank then the fry should be as close to 3cm+ from head to tail to ensure they have a good survival rate in the store... Also ask the store if they would be happy to trade some store credit/cash for the fry and buy some more aquarium plants to combat the nitrate build up in the tank. If all works out then it will be a win win situation Good luck. | |
