Ok thought I'd better put something in here on the conditions that my Bns have spawned.

Tank Size - 24"x12"x15" (This is normally used as my grow out tank)
Water Paramerters:

PH - 6.8
KH - 3
Gh - 13
No3 - 0
No2 - 0
Amonia - 0

water temp - 74F or 22C

Filtration is just a small internal filter (200 litre an hour) that really needs replacing for something bigger. The outlet of which is directed at an angle across the mouth of the cave.

1st spawn Trigger - Nothing special, normal 15% waterchange once a week with water the same temp or within +/- 2F

2nd spawn trigger - Again nothing special water changes the sames with regards to temp and percentages, but they are being done every two days now due to the first spawn fry.

Other tank mates:

1 x black molly
4 x platies
1 x female guppy.
2 x cherry shrimps
50+ fry for the second spawn.

First picture is of the first spawn fry, second picture is of male in the cave on the second batch of eggs (sorry itsd not very clear). You can see one of the first spawn fry on the edge of the cave bottom left in the scond picture.

The long fin Albino in the first picture is the mum of the second batch but she wasn't the mum for the first. First batch was the result of the trapping of a common brown female inmy main tank, who's head can be seen in my picture for the POTM comp for Jan/Feb.

cheers

Jon

Congratulations Jon!

I wonder which tank is shown on the pictures: grow out or community?

But my real question is, how do you collect the fry to replace them into the grow out tank?

I use PET bottle, but that is rather tiresome and time consuming (takes several days till the last one is caught.).

The tank shown is the grow out tank, after he breed with the common in my main tank, I moved him and the cave into my grow out tank about 2 days before he released the fry. The long fin albino was already in the grow out as the sole BN with the other non Pleco fish.

The reason why there were no other plecs in the tank is I had a load of mollies, platies and guppies in there and so I was just letting the BNs breed in the main tank and the fry had to take their chances. However, I had just got shot of the non plec young to my lfs, thought I'd move him into the grow out.

As I have a big male in my main, decided to leave him with the Long Fin to see if they got it together and they have... Very Happy

Nice one

Jon

Thanks for the info, Jon.

I have been trying different methods (take away eggs, let daddy raise them, raise in grow-out tank), but never taking eggs tigether with daddy.

This is something I surely have to try.

One problem is, my male refuse caves of all kind. He sticks with the large piece of Gymnocladus, which is over 2 kilograms. scratch
