| Hi, I have been trying to trigger my bristlenose catfish to breed, but still no luck Anyway i have noticed the female trying to get into the males cave and then the male kicking her out again. from what i have read the male tries to keep the female in to lay eggs then he kicks her out. my water perameters are good: PH7 Amonia 0 Nitrate 0 Carbon filter in there also so no tannins or toxins Help please. | |

| I'd take the carbon out. Tannins are good for spawning How long have you been trying to get them to spawn? | |

| if this is there first time then that is not unusual. it can take them a bit of time to figure out what to do. what i would do is wait til there is a perfect combo of conditions for triggering including pressure drop, temp drop, good diet and a water change. you can control some of those but not all. Keep them well fed and maintain a normal water change program (25% weekly or there abouts) then when the other conditions look like they are going to go your way, do the big cool water change and hope for the best. Just remember that the more you want them too, the less likely they are, watched pot never boils | |

| No worries mate. You can have a look through the 'Successful Breeders Log' to see what others have had luck with. But as i mentioned, give them time and you shall be rewarded | |

| ah. this sounds like me about 2 months ago.
i have 2 breading pairs now.
they take about a month - 5 weeks to get them to first start trying. my first pair is on spawn number 2 and all i had to do is a 25% water change with cool water.
my new pair is acting weird. the female is the one in the cave with her fins all out. the male stays on the drift wood and latched there.
its a strange process but really fun to experience
just take ur time and dont try to rush them. they will get use to your set up and find one another. | |
