| Don't you love it when you are working on a huge post and you internet browser unexpectedly closes.....GRrrrrAnyways, as promised I am making a pic heavy update for the expo that just took place this past weekend. Let me fist say that THIS FORUM and a couple of our members here were discussed in a positive light! The expo, but especially the fish show, really put BNs in the spotlight. I myself entered my LF common male and my LF calico female into the plecostomus category. BNs took the whole pleco category! A LF common male took 1st, my LF common male took 2nd, and my LF calico female took 3rd. Also, a pic I submitted for the photo category of my SF male green dragon took 3rd, and 2nd in the photo category was a pic of a LF common in a shell. I wasn't able to get pics of all the fish in the show but here are my entries and some of the competition from the plecostomus category. My LF common maleMy LF calico femaleOther plecos entered in the showGoody bags were given to the first 200 people to register for the event. These bags were phenominal and weighed in at just over 8 pounds! Most of the companies donated full sized products.I spent a lot of time working the registration table. Here I am (3rd from the left in front of the computer) with some fellow club members at the registration table. The vendor area was amazing, and all the vendors and reps were soooooo friendly! Many of them donated their product to the dry goods auction we had Saturday night, and many were giving out free FULL SIZE samples of their product. Talking to the vendors, they said this particular show had an amazing turnout! For many of them shows like this are their only chance to deal with their customers directly, and they did a good job of reaching out to the public and promoting their product. I haven't downloaded my pics from the vendor area yet, my have some pics to follow.Friday many people went on a late morning/afternoon trip to snookn21, (many of you probably know him from AB) a local breeder and importer. I did not go on this trip, but those that did came back with some AMAZZZZIIIING fish.Saturday we did a collection trip to a local park. Many fish were caught including: mayan and jewel cichlids, Gambusia holbrooki, sailfin mollies, blue fin killies, least killies, talapia, a sunfish, and many more! I was pretty busy collecting fish myself, but I did snap this pic of another guy from our trip. His daughter was in charge of their net, lol.Sunday we had an auction of live fish. It started around 11am and lasted till about 5pm. There were no breaks so you can imagine the amount of fih that were available. Some bags went for great deals (I got a full grown BEAUTIFUL texas cichlid for $10,) most went for a reasonable price, and IMO some went for WWAAAAYYY more money than they're worth. But I guess if someone is having trouble finding that fish, they'd put up some good money for it. There were many adult male BNs available and I offered a dozen of my BN fry in groups of 3. I had one bag of 3 SF that went for more than one of the bags of LF!This doesn't even scratch the surface of how awesome this 4 day expo was. From what I heard, the speakers did an amazing job and presented on a wide array of topics from water quality to breeding discus, and collecting wild fish, and anything inbetween! I still have TONS of pics to go through, just haven't had the time yet. I have missed you all while I was so busy and look forward to being an active member of this forum again, lol.

| Looks awesome! I would be so bad at the auction. I would go with no money deliberatly and still end up buying stuff...'SOLD! to the guy who bid the rest of his dinner and half a beer'...'SOLD! to the guy who is walking home as he just bought this $20 fish with his $20000 car!' | |

| Ha! I literally LOLed when I read that post. The fist time I went to a fish auction that was totally me. I was so excited I bought WAY too many fish. I gave some to a good friend and fellow fish keeper so I at least get to see them still! Are there auctions like this Australia? I know another big club in the area is putting on an auction in November. Plus there are small auctions at the clubs' monthly meetings. | |
