| Hi guys my peppermint bristlenose seem to have bred. Woke up this morning to find an egg cluster in the middle of the tank. I'm not sure why the female didn't lay them in a cave with the male? will the eggs be okay?? or should i move them and do something with them?? I've uploaded pics of the eggs. check em out

| wow really! thats awesome! peppermints are pretty hard to spawn i have been told. how big are they??? The pics didnt work but what may have been the case is that the female laid them in the cave and the male fanned them out accidentally. Have you heard of an egg tumbler? you can make them quite easily or put the eggs in a separate tank with an air stone right next to them so they get a really good flow of water around them. the exact same thing happened to me last night with my albino's so tonight im going to go home and make an egg tumbler for them =) here is a DIY of the tumbler im going to try and make.

Congratulations on the spawn. i cant wait until my peppermints are old enough. =)

| Whenever our bristlies kick out the eggs we do one of two things, either use a fry net with an airstone next to the eggs, or an empty glass jar with an airstone close to the eggs. All that is needed is the male to be mimicked, he fans, we use an airstone lol | |

| Hi Zane. Thanks for that link for the tumbler although i had a spare one sitting round (i made out of a gravel cleaner). Also the male is round 110mm long, the females are round 75mm long.
I have tumbled a lot of cichlid eggs before but thanks for the advise also angie n wayne. I have a question though. What happens when some of the eggs turn to fungus? How do i take them out (as they are cluster) not just seperated eggs.
I will keep you guys posted as to what happens. The eggs have been in the tumbler bout 24 hours now and a small portion is going white.

| Go and buy a pair long nosed pointed "tweezers" mattmania, some real pointy numbers - they usually work OK with out creating to much damage to the eggs, just try to leave them in the water when you work at the bunch eggs. J

| Came into work this morning to pick any fungus off the eggs (it's an on gowing war) and found two wrigglers. Most of the other eggs look pretty good too. i think i lost about 10.
Thanks all for your help!!

| High mattmania, I just took a peek at your egg pix and that is eggsactly how they should look( get it eggsactly ) Is that the tank your pepps spawned in or are you just holding the eggs there? I would suggest again putting the eggs in a breeder net with an air stone, but if you reckon you are starting to see wrigglers , the rest shouldn't be to far off hatching. Congrats again on what is proving to kinda difficult for the rest of us. J | |

| Nice pik mattmania, what have you got the wrigglers in? it looks like a gravel vaccum, looking at the other pictures of the tank and lack of other fish why not let them out of that tube thing add a little more plant life to the tank and see how you go - should be sweet. J | |

| Yea i made an egg tumbler out of a gravel vacuum. There is 2 female peppermints and 1 male peppermint in this tank so it should be fine if i let them out. Also with the plants should they be real plants or doesn't matter? | |

| High mattmania, I would add some airation to your egg tumbler( only a little-there still little fish), or as mentioned let them out, spoil yourself and grab a few smallish but attractive bits of wood with some real plants for some good cover+you have no other predators at all+ that's a pretty clean tank as a starting point , that would be my plan of attack. Just a suggestion mind you. J | |
