I have multiple pairs of L183s set up in hopes of getting some babies.
Well one pair has spawned 3 times....and the male has kicked the eggs out each time. Each time
I salvaged what eggs I could into a fry trap and all 3 times the eggs fungus. I assume the male
knew something I didnt and that is why he kicked them.
A different pair has spawned twice with the same exact results.
Needless to say it was very aggravating.
All the fish were in straight tap water of medium hardness and neutral pH. So thinking
that might be an issue I changed one pairs water by mixing RO water and got it down
to less than 100ppm. I also added some almond leaves to stain the water and help reduce
the pH.
Well wouldnt you know the pair still in straight tap water spawned and not the ones in
the 'improved water' haha. BUT....the eggs were laid Friday night and as of right now
they are still in the cave being guarded by the male. So thats a good sign.
It looks like a small batch....less than 50 I'd say.... but lets hope for the best ! ha even 30 would be better than ZERO
They should hatch what...maybe Wednesday ?
