| the angle makes it impossible. with no hint of bristles (either male or female) it comes down to body shape and that needs to be from directly above AND below also we need to know total length as that will influence it | |

| I'd say there's a good chance that it's female.
When they are that young it is hard to tell but often the females are a little more round shaped while the males are longer and thinner.

| yeah, my money would be on female, but its a tough one as i cant see any hint of bristles yet, which means its still immature and may not have begun to take on its adult form. | |

| Ity wont happen as they are totally different species many people have tried, searching for the elusive longfin peppermint but simple genetics makes it impossible | |

i do not support cross breeding at all, but a friend of mine accidently had a male common albino breed with a female peppermint. my friend wasn't planning on breeding it just happened in the tank. babies turned out half peps and half albino's. no other catfish in the tank. i didn't think it could happen either, until i saw photos of the babies. just thought i'd share Wow I was always under the impression that you can't cross breed the peps either :S Hence the quotation lol Are you sure it wasn't a really dark and well spotted common bn? Not that I'm questioning your observation but I thought that from what Doug said, the genetics are incompatible :S It's only because I've also seen laykoo's peps and i have a longfin bn that has a similar shade of colour and white spots, but the spots are larger than the ones on the pep lol.

| oh god, here we go again.
two rules to the 'peps x common game'
1) Pics or it didnt happen
2) if you or someone you know claims they have done it then please verify it with a local pleco expert (not your local fish shop, as most of them dont know a gold spot from a L333)

| I never meant to insinuate that you are stupid mate Its just that for those of use who have been kicking around the pleco forums for a few years will remember the huge arguements that use top break out over this topic, and i mean HUGE arguements. Hence the rules, just so that we dont end up the same way and end up banning members. If you have pics that would be excellent. I still am very unsure if it can happen biologically so i would be very keen to see it. anyway, enough of this here. Back on topic | |
