| In my opinion it is up to what you think, it obviously looks nicer with a light because you can see the fish, but if you want to save on electricity or something go with no light. Overall a light in the breeding tank is not really something you need to worry about. although, in a tank with fry, it is better to have a light because then the fry would be more used to light, and would not be stressed if going to a new tank with a bright light. | The only reasons you "need" to light your tank = 1. to see your fish 2. if you have heavily planted tank - we all "know" that plants need light to thrive. J | |

| my Bristlenose seem to breed alot more when the light is on less or reduced, I am now looking at installing blue lighting for nocturnal viewing in most of my bristlenose breeding and viewing tanks now.
will try to monitor breeding habits and report back..
