| Sorry this is not a BN but I figure there is a lot of breeding experience in these forums can anyone tell if these clown plecos are gravid or are full of food or bloated they have been like this for about a week. My camera is broken as I dropped it in a pale of water while photoing my fish awhile back so if anyone can see the video did get compressed, I apologize and understand if it is not clear enough to tell. Only one clown is in the video but both have the same bulging at the sides and the one I caught on camera is the biggest. Also they have been excreting waste which makes me question if it's bloat or eggs?

| once upon a time i had a colony of L104 clown plecos and nearly all were fat little bludgers. so im guessing yours is just normal. with mine even the males were fat so if it wasnt for hairy tails i woudnt have even been able to sex them. so yes imo that pleco of yours is perfectly healthy | |

| thanks, I was thinking they might be just chubby. They've been in a quarantine tank for a week now .and had to coax them out of their wood hiding spots to get one up on the glass like that, so far their poo looks very normal. I have been giving them shelled peas and I did put epsom salt as a precaution in case it was bloat but no real change.
thanks again Cheers | |

| I would agree, if the poo looks normal, rather then pale and stringy, then they probably are gravid. It's still worth keeping an eye on it, just in case. Are your fish wild caught? Bloating can be a syptom of worm infestation, which is more common in wild fish, but unless your fish show signs of getting worse I'd rule it out for now. | |

| From what I know, it's normal for the clown pleco to get a little pudgy. Tiny and fat little things, cute and with a personality to boot. The greater percentage of these guys have a bigger belly than other types, though it's more noticeable in the adults. I wouldn't worry about yours, looks healthy. | |

| Thanks Kfenk those pics look exactly like my clown plecos pudgy sides, sorry they never bred for you. I am hoping to purchase a few clown plecos this week and order some caves maybe on their next egg set something good will happen They really are cute and personable plecs. I have had them for close to a year now not sure if they were wild caught, it is possible, I think the majority of the lfs' plecos with the exception of BN's , commons and albinos (which I think come from large hatcheries in the state of Florida) are wild caught though they aren't always labeled as wild. I'll probably move them out of this Q tank so they can get back to hiding from me for months at a time maybe with some male companions in a tank of their own. I had them in a planted tank and only saw a tail sticking out now and then until I moved all the fish out of there. I even forgot I had two of them | |

| Clowns aren't like bn where u stick a male, female and a cave (sometime u don't even need that) then bam u got eggs. Personally I had my colony for 2yrs with no signs of breeding. But good luck if you want to try | |
