| Hi, I have some standard brown ones which tend to go pale at times is this natural. Will dark substrate make them darker??? Regards Terry. | |

| I find my BNs do change coloring depending upon their mood, if they're feeding, if they're stressed, etc... So I'd say yes, this is natural and normal. | |

Hi Terry, Many tropical species seem to prefer dark substrate, and esp probably nocturnal ones such as BN. It's simply more natural to them. They would likely feel more comfortable, and therefore more intensely colored with dark substrate. Even my bare bottom tanks have a dark material placed under them, the fish are very spooked without it. Sarah | |
