| I just found out that someone near me has managed to make hybrid longfin peppermints. Here is a copy paste of his take on it.
i used a common longfin to get the longfin gene in the peps ,then over the last 8 years i have been breeding the common gene out thus keeping only the pep longfin gene breeding as for stating im fu@$ing a fish pool then how did all these hybreds come about ? the fish i sell will breed true and their will be more than ten no less strains on the market at once and more following what you inbreed is your drama i know i wont be getting mutations as i have almost got to the point i was after and remember it takes 2 yrs to get another line to breed from the way i did this is so simple that after im finished i will get the tech den to tell yous as so simple its not funny thats why i dont work for nassa a lot of people criticise that cant accomplish tasks that others can thats jealousy at its best and to those that want something for nothing guess again they will be pricy.
He started off by breeding a peppermint with a common longfin. I imagine that would be pretty tricky lol but I cant wait to see some and hopefully buy some when they are ready.
Theres a lot of junk and stupid comments in the thread that i found this on but heres the link anyway. http://www.qldaf.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18306&start=30 | |

| The link is bad mate it takes you to the site but say's them member has been banned..... It would be great to see this but iam very scepticle on it mate... I think if you keep a male and female together for long enough they would eventually try to spawn if the condition's were right even if there gene's werent 100% a match..... It would be a very sort after species if it was created though... Lets see what happens eh!..... cheers for the post ... | |

| A very hot topic in OZ at the moment - "longfin peppermints", wether they exist or not is to be debated, would be a damn nice fish to see though. J | |

| ah really. dam they must have banned someone in that thread. doesnt suprise me really. theres a huge arguement about people saying how wrong it is because this guy is making hybrids. he said that he is going to get a few pictures up soon once he is happy that he has completely bred out the common gene. he also said he has already created 8 different bloodlines. hopefully they will be on the market very soon. =) | |

| ill believe it when i see some pics of said beastie. as far as people saying its wrong to make hybrids its no diff from cross breeding dogs to make a stupid one like a cockerpoodle or what ever they want to call their cross bred mutts. | |

| Why would people want to make longfins? They look like the most rediculous things I have ever seen. Keep it natural and the fish can swim and look so much fitter and stronger and better. | |
