Fair price for your BN from LFS?

generally, yes. But do your research in your local area. remember the laws of supply and demand

I'm getting $2-3 in store credit and $1-1,50 cash. Depends on the store and size.

I have a wonderful relationship with one lfs, one of the very few left in my area. It's all the big chain stores now. I also worked many, many years in both retail pet businesses and a wholesale small animal business, so I do know both sides of the picture.

I trade my brown BN for 50¢ each, and albinos for $1.00, store credit. I believe the shop retails them for $4.99 each, so he's making a very nice profit, esp considering his in-store losses of my BN are virtually zero. I'm delighted with this arrangement, as it benefits both of us.

Why so cheap? I only have to go to one store, he will take whatever I have, whenever I have it. He takes excellent care of my fish. He listens and takes my advice on caring for them. He also buys all my other fish (angels, guppies, snails), so again, it's one trip and they go to a good shop.
He knows I can purchase most supplies cheaper than his mark-up, so he rarely charges me full price on things when I use the credit, and he will bust his butt to find and get something for me if I have a special request.

I love breeding fish, but if I had to scrounge to find buyers, deal with shipping and individual customers, or wonder about the care my fish were receiving in the store I wouldn't enjoy it, so I wouldn't do it. That's why I sometimes practically give my fish away, and am quite happy that a good independent lfs can benefit.

to the public, at around an inch and a half, maybe £5, to mates its basically ill trade for different fish and lfs, i hope £3 a piece
although i know albinos are like £15 a piece here
