| Subject: Male isn't fanning eggs (again!) URGENT help please Sat Sep 06, 2014 8:38 am | |
| As the heading suggests, my male isn't fanning the eggs AGAIN! The last clump of eggs he just sat in the cave-still- and did venture out to eat and such. I managed to get them out and into a crappy home mad egg tumbler but only 44 out of over 120 eggs hatched to wrigglers. Within the first night, all of them died. Their eggs had fungus on them, so I wasn't surprised. There is a clump of eggs which looks to be that size in the cave ATM (less than 5 hours old) and he's not fanning them. I'm worried as i have an extremely gravid female who hasn't dropped her eggs yet and I don't want these guys to die off. I've successfully bred with him the first two times, now he's acting up. This was before I got another male. Since I do have another male, will he fan the eggs if I can get the dad out of the cave and tank and place this male in there? Otherwise, what can I do? It's been a while since the last lot of fry hatched.. I've got 60 ish currently growing out in a 2ft tank, a trio of albinos in another 2ft tank and two males + 3 females (& 13 older fry-4-5cm long) in the 3ft tank. Which is where he is ATM. Any help would be much appreciated! Kindest regards x | |

| Sounds like he might just be a lame dad? Not all men are cut out for it :/
Either that or he is still getting into the swing of things. Normally it takes them a few spawns to get it right.
If you are looking to have a breeding program running then id recommend having an egg tumbler on hand ready to go. You never know when a male might get spooked and abandon the eggs. | |
